About Encapsulation

Placenta encapsulation has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine since the 1500's.

Joyful Birth and Baby will encapsulate your placenta depending on your preferences, in either your home or our kitchen using the Traditional Chinese Medicine methods that have been used for thousands of years.

Did you know?

Recent studies show placenta capsules can contain 25% of your recommended daily amount of iron as well as 13 other trace minerals! The dried placenta also has a significant amount of Estradiol and Progesterone as well as trace amounts of 15 other hormones.
new studies also note the presence of Allopregnanolone in the placenta, the active ingredient in medication treatment of postpartum depression. 

FAQs

How much does it cost?

  • Encapsulation: $350 and includes your capsules and a dried cord keepsake
  • Placenta print on canvas: $15 
  • Placenta tincture as an addition to encapsulation: $50
  • Placenta tincture only: $250

How many capsules will I get?

  • This depends fully on the size of your placenta! Most placenta yield between 60 and 200 capsules!

How long will my capsules last?

  • It is recommended that after the postpartum period, the capsules are stored in the freezer. Some women will save the frozen capsules until menopause to ease the transition into a new hormonal shift. 

How do I take the capsules?

  • Everyone will receive instruction for use with your encapsulated placenta. These are a general guide, it is most important to listen to your own body and what it needs.

What health and safety measures are taken?

  • Your encapsulation specialists are a nurse and a chef respectively. All supplies are sanitized before and after each use. Supplies are dedicated to only the encapsulation process. Gloves are used at every measure when handling your placenta, from cleaning it to packaging it. 

Are there reasons I won't be able to encapsulate my placenta?

  • The most common reason a placenta has to be rejected is due to infection of the uterus. Other reasons include the placenta not being refrigerated within 4/5 hours after birth, possible contamination if the placenta had to be taken to pathology, or heavy drug use during pregnancy.
